MINI has revealed and detailed a new range of special ‘Edition’ vehicles that will boost the critically low number of MINI models and variants currently available to Australians, ahead of first local deliveries in late 2022.
The new three-model special-edition line-up comprises the MINI Resolute, MINI Untold and MINI Untamed Editions, based on the MINI Hatch, Convertible, Clubman and Countryman.
Starting at the bottom of the range in terms of pricing, the Resolute series comprises the five-door Cooper ($45,800) and Cooper S ($55,450) hatch, the three-door Cooper S ($53,800) hatch and Cooper SE ($63,825) electric hatch, and the solitary Cooper S Convertible ($59,880), all of which are described by MINI as having “unparalleled charisma”.
The secret to these bold characters are the unique colour combinations and exclusive trim bits, with the headline acts being the ‘Rebel Green’ paint and ‘Resolute Bronze’ exterior trim combination (headlight surrounds, radiator grille, rear lights, side scuttles and doorhandles).
In the case of the Cooper S versions, the bronze treatment also extends to the front air intakes and the fuel filler cap.
A thin black pinstripe can also be seen on the lower edges of the Hatch’s window lines, while the bonnet flaunts an asymmetric gold striped decal and ‘RESOLUTE’ lettering.
In terms of rolling stock, exclusive black alloy wheels complete the exterior look on Cooper and Cooper S variants, while the battery-powered Cooper SE nabs a set of ‘Electric Collection Spoke’ 17s.
The glamorous theme is continued within the cabin by sports seats finished in either black leather or a combination of chequered fabric and leatherette, plus gold pinstriped black trim.
The elegance continues when it gets dark too, thanks to standard lighting and ambient lighting packages.
While the MINI Hatch and Convertible have been glammed up, the bigger MINI Clubman wagon has been gifted a new ‘Sage Green’ tracksuit in order to create the Untold Edition.
With prices starting from $58,900 for the Cooper S version and $72,250 for the hi-po John Cooper Works, the Clubman Untold Editions roll around on bespoke 18-inch alloys and flaunt updated front and rear bumpers. Unique bonnet and roof graphics are the other big giveaway of their identities.
Like the Resolute Editions, the overarching colour scheme combines green paint with Group 11 element-coloured (gold, brass, copper, bronze, etc) trim, but the Untold Editions up the athletic ante with a piano-black roof.
Once again we find sports seats in the front row, this time wrapped in ‘MINI Yours Leather Lounge Sage Green’ upholstery with textile inserts on the backrests.
The Sage Green and brass colourway has been expanded to the interior trim, along with the striped graphics and some special-edition badging.
“The MINI Clubman in the Untold Edition also offers particularly high-quality equipment in addition to the exclusive design features,” said MINI Australia today.
“Beyond the standard equipment of the premium compact model, it also includes adaptive LED headlights, the MINI Excitement Package and the MINI Driving Modes as well as the anthracite-coloured roof lining and the Interior Light Package.”
Compared to the elegant and sporty Resolute and Untold Editions, the flagship Untamed Edition MINI Countryman is all about upping the toughness factor for the British brand’s SUV, which adds a rugged new look via the liberal use of metallic grey highlights, black and grey graphics and black badging.
Retailing for $62,400 and $70,000 respectively, the Cooper S and Cooper SE Untamed variants are finished exclusively in ‘Momentum Grey’ metallic paintwork – contrasted by a black roof – and roll on chunky six-spoke 18-inch alloys.
Unlike the other Editions though, the exterior colour scheme isn’t replicated on the interior, which in this instance comprises “nature-inspired shades” of green and blue with ‘Frozen Blue’ graphics and badging.
Like the other models outlined here, sports seats feature as standard.
While all the Edition variants have spruced up exteriors and cabins, no changes have been made to any of the vehicle mechanicals or underpinnings, meaning peak power outputs and fuel (and energy) consumption all mimic that of the regular line-ups.
Going back to the estimated arrival times, carsales understands the Resolute and Untamed Editions are scheduled to arrive in the final quarter of the year, while the Untold Editions will arrive in early 2023.
