To celebrate the 60th anniversary of its first ute -- the 1951 Holden 50-2106 Coupe Utility (FX) -- Holden has announced a special 'Thunder' edition of its popular VE Series II utility.
Based on Ute SV6 and SS models, the anniversary edition receives an additional $3000 of value, each variant receiving charcoal coloured 19-inch alloy wheels, satellite navigation, leather seat bolsters and Thunder badging.
Thunder SV6 models are motivated by Holden's high-performing 3.6-litre SIDI V6 which is available with the choice of six-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic transmissions.
Thunder SS is powered by a 6.0-litre V8 and is also available in manual or automatic.
"Over 60 years of production, the Holden ute has evolved from typical tradesman's transport to two-door sports machine with a practical edge - that's epitomised by the Thunder range," said Holden's executive director of sales and marketing, John Elsworth.
"It is a really bold, tough looking ute which we think will appeal to many of our traditional sports ute buyers. We're expecting it to be an absolute winner in our showrooms."
The Thunder Ute models arrive in Holden showrooms this week.
