Tickford Mustang ready for action
Performance and cosmetic changes in store for GT and EcoBoost modelsAustralian performance tuner Tickford has shown a first glimpse of its fettled Ford Mustang offerings, which will be formally revealed next week.
Having already released a $21,000 pack for the Ranger ute, the reborn company has turned its attention to not one but two Pony cars, confirming it will offer enhancement packages on both the 5.0-litre V8 Mustang GT and 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost derivatives.
Tickford released a lone teaser image of its Mustang kit today, but plans to release “the first phase” of its new Mustang personalisation packages after the weekend.
What we know already is that the V8 version is likely to have its power outputs increased from 306kW to somewhere north of 350kW.
It is believed Tickford is even targeting 351kW in a nod to the famed 351 cubic-inch Cleveland and Windsor V8s that featured heavily in Ford’s yesteryear catalogue.
The 233kW/432Nm four-cylinder Mustang, which will launch concurrently with the V8, is also expected to receive a healthy bump in outputs.
Unlike other performance tuners such as Herrod Performance and Mustang Motorsport, Tickford isn’t expected to venture too heavily down the supercharger path on Mustang, instead concentrating on ECU and exhaust tuning to extract more power.
“We are not trying to achieve some ridiculous number,” Tickford boss Tim Edwards told motoring.com.au in October. “It’s just making a subtle improvement to what is already a really good car.
“We are quite happy to fit superchargers for people who would like superchargers. There is a core group of people who like that, but that’s not going to be our main focus.
“We are more looking at the 80 per cent of the market rather than the 20 per cent of the market.”
Under the skin, Tickford-fettled models are expected to feature subtle interior, optional brakes and suspension tweaks.
A carbon-fibre front splitter extension, side skirts, rear wing and diffuser are believed to be among the cosmetic changes to the Tickford-prepared ‘Stang.
Pricing for the Tickford Mustang pack is expected to come in under the $21,000 package already available for the Ranger ute.
