Tickford releases 400kW Ford Mustang tune

It might be beer-o'clock on Friday night, but that hasn't stopped Ford tuner Tickford announcing a 400kW upgrade for the MY18 Ford Mustang GT.

Incredibly, Tickford says the upgrade for the latest Mustang's 5.0-litre V8 liberates a mammoth 61kW and 76Nm more power and torque without the use of forced induction, bringing outputs to 400kW/632Nm for both manual and automatic models – up from 339kW/556Nm.

In fact, it required only a new ECU recalibration tune, which is now available via the Melbourne Tickford Enhancement Centre (TEC) in Campbellfied (Vic) and will be rolled out to all TECs over the coming weeks.

Making those outputs even more amazing is the fact the previous model Mustang (MY15-17) required hardware upgrades including a cold-air intake with a K&N filter and 3.0-inch full exhaust system for Tickford to raise its output from 306 to 360kW.

"We obtained one of the first Mustangs to land on Australian shores and immediately commenced development work to understand the implications of the subtle changes made to the engine by Ford, including the use of direct injection and an active exhaust," said Tickford managing director Rod Nash.

"Over this past month or so, the engineering team have been working feverishly on the new engine and understanding the implications of the engine updates, as well as the new active exhaust system.

"Following weeks spent on the dyno, this is the end result, which we are very happy with. It certainly enhances the power and driveability of the car."

But the news gets even better: Tickford has announced a retail price for the 400kW upgrade starting at just $2750 including GST and warranty.
