Toyota has launched sportier versions of its C-HR, 86 coupe, HiLux pickup and HiAce people mover at the Tokyo Auto Salon over the weekend.
All have been tuned by the Japanese car maker's in-house tuning department, Toyota Racing Development (TRD).
Releasing images of each of the six vehicles Toyota unveiled all come with a sporty new body kit, large alloy wheels and a look that's claimed to have been inspired by the car maker's huge investment in motorsport.
Out of the six TRD-modified cars, two are based on the recently launched C-HR SUV. The first comes with, what TRD is calling, an 'Aggressive Style' body kit. Differing to the standard car the small SUV gains a redesigned front bumper, new LED running lamps, extended side skirts, a rear lip spoiler, new alloys and a large rear diffuser.
The next TRD'd SUV is called the C-HR 'Extreme Style'. Painted yellow, the C-HR looks more like a rally refugee than road car as it comes with wide black wheel arches, bright red mud flaps, a front spoiler and a set of small 16-inch alloys.
There's already plenty of demand for tuning parts for the rear-wheel drive 86 coupe and the 14R-60 Carbon Concept comes with an extreme new aero and plenty of carbon-fibre parts that include a new front bumper, splitter and front wings.
The second coupe on display is even more focused. Created as a rally concept with race driver, Fumio Tahara, who is a multiple Japan Rally Championship holder. The 86 TRD Rally Concept4 looks stage-ready with a full cage, Recaro rally seats, a raised ride height and a set of lightweight Rays motorsport rims. It's not known how much power the concept for a new competition-spec 86 produces.
Not to feel left out, even Toyota's HiLux and HiAce get the TRD treatment. Like the rally-prepared 86 the HiLux REVO TRD AXCR2016 looks motorsport ready, with a full cage and race seats. Created to compete in Cross Country races like the Dakar rally.
The accompanying HiACe, meanwhile, looks more suited as a toughened-up team bus.
Of the road-going vehicles, it's unlikely Toyota will introduce the TRD trim to any markets outside Japan. Instead, expect each car's TRD branded body kit and wheels to eventually be offered as dealer-fit accessories.
