Tokyo traffic police have taken delivery of three Nissan 370Z NISMO coupes.
The trio of 370Zs was said to be “specially prepared” for their new law-enforcing duties by Nissan’s in-house performance division, NISMO, but it’s not known if this included any power upgrades or if they stick with their standard 245kW/363Nm 3.7-litre V6.
If so, Nissan claims a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.2 seconds is achievable, along with a limited top speed of 250km/h.
As well as larger brakes and 19-inch RAYS alloy wheels, the cars prepared for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police are thought to have new dampers tuned for the extra weight of the safety equipment the 370Z cop cars are required to carry.
According to a Tokyo city police spokesperson, the Nissan coupes were chosen for their role because the police wanted an “iconic car” for a new road safety initiative.
