TOKYO MOTOR SHOW: Honda's seven concept show
A new sports concept, multiple commuter models and vehicles designed for “fun mobility” to take pride of place at the Honda standHonda has announced seven-strong line-up for next month’s Tokyo Motor Show including a range of commuter models it says will bring “fun mobility” to the range.
Looking closely at these models, Honda says it is possible to see the future design direction for the Japanese brand, while electric vehicles also get a look-in.
Simply named the Small Sports EV Concept, this electric-powered compact sports model could well replace the Fit (Jazz) EV. Honda says this model will be fun to drive while achieving “excellent” environmental performance.
Next up, the AC-X plug-in hybrid offers flexible urban and long-distance commuting with a drivetrain that offers an “engine drive mode” for “more spirited driving. When cruising the suburbs, AC-X reverts to an economical automatic mode.
The smallest offering to grace the Honda stage will be the Micro Commuter Concept. This micro-sized, futuristic, electric-powered commuter is the brand’s take on mobility for the masses, and also features a two-wheeled Honda Motor Compo within the EV’s structure.
This electric powered motorcycle offers casual and convenient transport over shorter distances is powered by detachable batteries Honda hopes will eventually be used to power other daily-use items.
E-Canopy is a three-wheeled scooter which, again, is electrically powered and is designed to service light delivery services, such as take-away food franchises.
An electric “super sports bike” dubbed RC-E will also join the motorcycle field, promising a “powerful and smooth” ride similar in performance to that of a 250cc-class motorcycle.
As part of its push to promote urban mobility, Honda will also unveil the Townwalker Concept. This machine combines the “simplicity and nimbleness that enables everyone to enjoy mobility in urban areas”. It can easily be loaded in a car by folding away the steering and seat.
Finally, Honda will also be showcasing the N Concept, a new mini-vehicle it says emphasises the clever use of space, and is the brand’s first production model in the N BOX series.
The Tokyo Motor Show will begin on December 3.
