TOKYO MOTOR SHOW: Suzuki Regina Concept
Previewing Suzuki's next generation global compact car, the Regina concept delivers ultra low emissions without the use of an electric motorSuzuki has taken the wraps off its Regina Concept car, a vehicle the Japanese car-maker touts as "a vision of a next-generation global compact car".
Unveiled at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show, the Regina shows off a unique style to go with its intriguing name. The sub-compact city car-sized concept measures 3500mm long and just 1600mm wide, so would slot in below the Suzuki Swift.
Power comes from a turbocharged 800cc petrol engine paired to a CVT transmission and though Suzuki hasn't released power figures, it claims the car is more efficient than the current generation Toyota Prius, using just 3.8L/100km.
Carbon dioxide emissions are on the low side too, at a claimed 70g/km.
The Regina makes use of regenerative braking and engine stop-start systems to reduce emissions and a large part of the car's fuel efficiency is attributable to its light weight - it tips the scales at just 730kg.
According to Suzuki aerodynamics are "10% lower than that of current models thanks to uncompromising efforts to heighten aerodynamic performance," while features such as rear wheels covers also contribute to its frugal nature.
