TOKYO MOTOR SHOW: Suzuki's big future
“Small cars for a big future” theme adorns the Suzuki stand at next month's Tokyo Motor ShowSuzuki says it will use its unparalleled expertise in small cars as the basis for its 2011 Tokyo Motor Show theme.
Using the tag line of “small cars for a big future”, Suzuki will unveil three concept vehicles it says will offer fuel economy, user-friendliness, innovation, brisk performance, and exciting styling.
First up, the Regina concept hints strongly at the brand’s next-generation small car. Tipping the scales at just 730kg, its lightweight construction and aerodynamic shape are said to greatly improve efficiency and emissions figures.
Suzuki claim a combined cycle fuel consumption figure of just 3.1L/100km is possible from Regina, while CO2 emissions are as low as 70g/km when tested on the new NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) scale.
Q-Concept, a two-seat micro car, will offer what Suzuki says is a new kind of mobility. Positioned between the car and motorcycle, Q measures 2.5 meters in length and can carry two adults in tandem configuration. The electric powered vehicle is said to be ideal for everyday journeys within a radius of about 10 kilometers.
The re-configurable vehicle can also be utilised as a delivery vehicle – the rear seat making way for a small cargo area.
Finally, and looking decidedly more mainstream, the Swift EV Hybrid is a range extending version of the current small car favourite. Able to travel up to 30km on battery power alone, the car’s battery is said to be smaller, lighter and quicker to charge than conventional models currently available.
The 42nd Tokyo Motor Show begins on December 3.
