Top five celebrity Carpool stories of 2021
What’s a year in review without a look back at celebrities, television and film?In 2021, we’ve published an array of topics on Carpool, from road trips and adventures, tips and advice, pets and the just plain quirky, to television, film and celebrity.
The latter is always of interest, especially when we take a look at some of the interesting endorsements, activities and personal car collections they curate. Not to mention the number of things which went up for auction!
Here are five of the top trending celebrity stories on Carpool for 2021…
5. David Beckham invests in UK electric vehicle company Lunaz
In June, the football star that loves cars put his money where his mouth is and became the latest big-name investor in a fast-growing technology company in the UK. British technology start-up Lunaz upcycles and converts vehicles that run on traditional petrol and diesel internal combustion engines to its proprietary electric powertrain. It announced that as part of its ambitious new growth plans a group of new strategic investors came on board, including none other than David Beckham.
4. Princess Diana’s 1981 Ford Escort is up for auction
It was a Ford fit for a princess and after being in private hands for several decades, the famed Ford once owned by Princess Diana was sold at auction. Princess Diana’s 1981 Ford Escort Ghia sedan was gifted to her by Prince Charles for their engagement in May 1981, two months before the Royal Wedding, and had been used by her until August 1982.
3. The Porsche 928 Tom Cruise drove in Risky Business is up for auction
The 1979 Porsche 928 which starred alongside Tom Cruise in Risky Business sold at auction for a record-breaking amount. The 1983 film Risky Business has danced its way into the hearts and minds of movie fans worldwide and launched the career of an up-and-comer called Tom Cruise, whose tightly-whitey-clad performance to Bob Seger’s Old Time Rock & Roll remains an iconic part of cinematic history.
2. Tom Hanks is auctioning off his custom Toyota FJ40 LandCruiser and Airstream caravan
When it comes to stories about our favourite celebs auctioning off their assets, life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get! One of the world’s most-loved actors, Tom Hanks, offered up not just one, but four personal items at auction in July. These included a specially commissioned green 1980 Toyota FJ40 LandCruiser hard-top, the ‘silver bullet’ Airstream, 2010 Ford F-450 Super Duty pick-up truck and a 2015 Tesla Model S P85D.
1. Actor Zac Efron gets a caravan for his Aussie staycation
First the Hemsworths in 2020, now Zac Efron in 2021 joined the #vanlife, with the actor posting snaps of himself embracing the outdoor Aussie lifestyle. And just like the Hemsworths who took top spot last year, Efron takes the crown as the most-read Carpool celebrity story of 2021. You all really wanted to know all about the former High School Musical star’s foray into caravanning in his aptly named ‘Hollywood’ camper.
