Top five quirkiest Carpool stories of 2020

Who doesn’t love a quirky car story? One that makes you scratch your head and say: “What were they thinking?”

In 2020 there have been many stories published from Australia and around the world about cars in quirky situations. All we hope is that for 2021 these stories keep coming, as they are so entertaining.

Here are five of the best from the year that was.

5. A 25-year-old has been fined for eating a bowl of cereal while driving on the Hume Freeway

Back in February life was much simpler…Highway Patrol officers caught a man allegedly disobeying road rules not once, but twice. He was first stopped for allegedly using a mobile phone while driving on Sydney Road in Melbourne’s north. Around ten minutes later, the same man was stopped by a different police patrol on the Hume Freeway after they saw him allegedly steering his car using his knees while eating a bowl of cereal...

3. A five-year-old boy was caught driving an SUV on his way to buy a Lamborghini

File this story under 'Only in America'... Back in May, a five-year-old boy was allegedly caught driving his parent’s SUV on a freeway in the US state of Utah on his way to buy a Lamborghini. According to a Utah Police statement, the boy said the reason why he was driving on the road was that he had left home after an argument with his parents, who refused to buy him a Lamborghini and was on his way to a relative's house in California. He was then planning to go and buy a Lamborghini for himself.

In 2020 Lamborghini teamed up with an Italian luxury boat builder to create a stunning on-water version of the Lamborghini Sian FKP 37 hybrid super sports car. Luxury superyacht maker. The Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63's engines produce almost 3000kW of performance. That’s like packing five 6.5-litre V12-engined Lamborghini Sians in behind you.

1. The man-cave is dead, the Supercar Capsule is now

Luxury design firm Superfuturedesign (their spelling) says the Supercar Capsule is ‘a palette of unique ports that keep the automobile in a closed space, allowing owners’ supercars to emerge as if from a dedicated showroom.’ If you've ever dreamed of having a car showroom in your house, either as a way of perusing the supercar or pretending to be a car sales person, well this is definitely the home accessory you've been waiting for.
