Top five songs for belting out a tune behind the wheel with Rob Mills

Actor, singer, TV-host, MC – there’s not much Aussie Rob Mills can’t do, but can he create the ultimate list of songs to sing in the car?

It was Rob’s dulcet tones on the 2003 series of Australian Idol where it all started. From there followed a spate of television shows and a regular gig on Neighbours bring Mills into our homes once again. It’s Mills’ lauded credentials on the live stage that keeps him most busy right now, with MIDNIGHT - The Cinderella Musical opening at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne on 26 June.

“I love music and I am always singing in the car” said Mills as he shares his top five songs for belting out a tune behind the wheel!

1. Thnks fr th Mmrs - Fall Out Boy

“I just really felt like a pump up song on my way to the gym this morning! This is a certified banger. I used to play it in my band many years ago and I just love rocking out to it” says the Idol finalist.

2. I Will Wait - Mumford and Sons

“Similarly, just a banger that I love singing my guts out too” says Mills who gives credit to the “chugging guitars” and the “sweet harmonies”. “These guys are sensational” he adds.

3. Hamilton - The Musical Soundtrack

Mills says pretty much anything on this album he can rap or sing along to. “It’s become a favourite album for road trips and getting through the traffic jams. Lin-Manuel Miranda is a musical theatre genius. If you haven't listened to this yet, do it now.” urges Mills. “The rags to riches story is super empowering and the rhymes, melodies and music production is like nothing ever heard before in a musical. Alexander Hamilton a definite pump up song.”

4. Satellite - Ben Abraham

Mills reckons this guy is one of the best story-tellers we have in this country, “both lyrically and musically”.

“The voice of an angel and all round good human. I love his tone and the calm space this song puts me in. It’s mediative in a way, beautiful and grounding” he says.

A great choice for curbing road rage, perhaps?

5. Bring It On Home - Sam Cooke

“Just go and have a listen… the silky vocals and harmonies, musical arrangement (those strings!). I dare you not to sing backing vocals for Sam after 37 secs - “Yeah - Yeah! Yeah - Yeah! Yeah - Yeah!” says Mills who admits this one gets him – Every. Single. Time.
