Chris Evans has revealed that seven presenters, including himself, will replace Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond in the new reboot of Top Gear.
As already reported by motoring.com.au, former F1 team boss and commentator Eddie Jordan will join US actor Matt LeBlanc and Chris Evans as the three main presenters, with car journalist and car reviewer Rory Reid, YouTube star Chris Harris and German racing driver Sabine Schmitz all assisting in the presenting duties.
Originally, it was thought that Evans was planning to keep the traditional three-strong line-up but now it appears the TV presenter, who also hosts a popular morning slot on BBC Radio 2, is hatching a radical relaunch of the world’s favourite car show.
Commenting on scoring the gig, Eddie Jordan described himself as “giddy with excitement”.
Chris Harris, meanwhile, said he was “raring to give it a go” but added “if it all goes wrong, well, I can say I was once on Top Gear, and just head back to being that annoying small bloke off YouTube.”
Schmitz, no stranger to the old-format Top Gear, having appeared numerous times on the show, described the job offer “too good an opportunity to pass up”.
Finally, Rory Reid, who was picked from thousands of hopefuls who submitted a 30-second audition tape to Evans, said: “I'm looking forward to bringing my brand of knowledge, energy and humour to what promises to be a very exciting new series.”
The Stig, meanwhile, refused to comment on any of the new appointments.
