The Toroidion 1MW is not your typical super car. Not only does it run purely on electricity, and is therefore a truly zero emission sports car in many countries, but it also looks like nothing else out there.
And that could suit potential buyers to a tee.
Shown for the first time at the Top Marques car event in Monaco, alongside the likes of more traditional super cars like the Automobili Turismo Sport 2500 GT, the Toroidion 1MW could snatch the title of world's most powerful electric production car from the current king – the $1 million dollar Rimac ConceptOne. That car pumps out 800kW and 3800Nm of torque, but this Finnish creation ups the ante.
Developed, designed and built in Finland, the vehicle is the love child of the start-up company's CEO, Pasi Pennanen, and pumps 1000 kilowatts of power, or one megawatt – hence the 1MW name.
That's 1,000,000 watts if you'd like to cut it another way, or 1341hp.
It's not clear how much torque the Toroidion MW1 forces through its driveline, but with 1000kW on tap it's likely to generate similar twist to the Rimac, around 4000Nm. The Rimac blitzes from 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 305km/h, for reference.
Apart from its stonking power output, a specialised battery-swap system to enable extended driving range and its peculiar design, Toroidion is keeping much of the cars' details secret, such as its weight, plug-in charge times, motor type, battery type, brake size and so forth.
And the most important question – the cost – is probably still unknown by its creators, but it's safe to say it'll cost a fair bit more than a Tesla Model S.
