Tougher Fisker Ocean off-roader SUV previewed

Fisker Automotive has released new images of a tougher, jacked-up version of its Ocean SUV that's set to go on sale next year.

Previewed little more than a month after the Californian-based car-maker accidentally posted pictures of the Alaska ute it may or may not be working on, the new renderings suggest the raised Ocean could have both Rivian and Bollinger in its sights.

Offering a raised ride height, the more adventurous Ocean also gets a front bull bar and modified bumper, handy bonnet mount for a spare wheel, a huge off-road wheel and tyre package plus a roof rack that stores another spare.

Beneath, builds on the regular Ocean with additional underbody armour and more durable front and rear bash plates, hinting the pure-electric Land Rover Defender alternative has been designed to go far off-road.

According to Fisker, the Ocean's low centre of gravity and wider front and rear tracks make it the perfect off-road vehicle and, thanks to its zero-emissions, could see it employed by international organisations like the UN as a rescue vehicle in remote regions.

Because of its toughness and off-road ability, the fledgling US car brand hopes the Ocean will also appeal to the military as a zero-emission troop carrier.

Set to be revealed and launched next year, no other technical details have been provided at this time.

Therefore, it's not known how much more power it gets over the 225kW produced by the entry-level Ocean models, nor how the 80kWh version's 483km range has been affected.

When it arrives in early 2022, Fisker has already announced the Ocean will be priced from just $37,499 ($A61,500.)

If that's too much, the US car-maker says the Ocean will be available on a subscription basis from $379 ($A622) a month, inclusive of all costs.
