Touring wagon joins 5 Series range
BMW announces international launch of 5 Series wagon, with diesel four and petrol six variants proposed for OzWagon variants will join BMW's Australian-delivered 5 Series range near the end of this year, says the prestige importer. As we reported in March, BMW plans to introduce the 5 Series Touring in two forms: the 520d Touring, powered by a four-cylinder turbodiesel, and the 535i Touring, with its turbocharged petrol six.
"The powerful straight-six cylinder BMW 535i Touring offers supreme dynamics in the segment while the 520d Touring delivers outstanding performance and unrivalled fuel economy in equal measure," said BMW Group Australia Managing Director, Stavros Yallouridis.
BMW claims that the 520d Touring marks the first occasion the company has offered Australian buyers a four-cylinder diesel in a 5 Series wagon. The 520d was introduced as a sedan in the E60 generation of 5 Series and has proved very popular with buyers. BMW is hoping that popularity will carry over into the new generation wagon, with the same sort of drivetrain.
"The BMW 520d Touring has sold extremely well overseas and with no comparable offering in the local market, we expect it to be enormously popular with Australian customers," said Yallouridis.
Prices and specifications are still to be finalised and BMW will disclose this information closer to the local launch.
