Toyota 86 sedan for Dubai debut?

Highly anticipated Toyota 86 sedan claimed to make global debut this week

Update: Toyota Motor Company in Japan responded to motoring.com.au's requests for clarification, stating "No such car will be appearing in Dubai". The company also asserted that "no such four-door car exists".

A Toyota 86 sedan concept will make its global debut in the Middle East this week, according to the Dubai motor show's official Facebook page.

In early October motoring.com.au lifted the lid on the  Toyota 86 sedan, and it was believed the car wouldn't be shown until the Geneva motor show in March 2014.

However, the Dubai International Motor Show is now publicly reporting it has snared one of the biggest car reveals of the year.

The show’s Facebook announcement was accompanied by a small image of a four-door concept sedan first seen two years ago.

The Dubai International Motor Show begins on November 5, 2013.

Toyota could gauge response to an 86-based sedan by showing a concept in Dubai, just as it did with the Toyota 86 convertible concept that was revealed at Geneva motor show in March.

It is understood the Japanese giant has already pushed the sedan ahead of the convertible in the development queue.

The new 86 sedan will be powered by the same 147kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer engine as the 86 coupe, which is currently Australia's best-selling sports car.

However the rear-drive compact sedan will sit on slightly longer (by 100mm) wheelbase.

Toyota is also believed to be working on a high-output version of the Subaru-developed 2.0-litre boxer engine that would make use of an electric motor to increase performance, potentially to the tune of 200kW.

Toyota Australia would not comment on the possibility of an 86 sedan appearing this week in Dubai.
