Toyota Australia provides delivery wait time update

Customer wait times for new Toyota RAV4, HiLux, LandCruiser and C-HR orders drop to under six months

Toyota Australia has provided on update on the delivery waiting times customers can expect for its most popular models, and the good news is new orders for the Toyota RAV4, HiLux, C-HR and LandCruiser 300 Series are now claimed to take less than six months to fill.

In fact, some of Toyota’s most in-demand models are now subject to much shorter delivery delays – particularly the 2024 Toyota RAV4, which after peaking at more than three years in early 2023 now has a lead time of four months.

A similar timeframe has been nominated for new HiLux orders and slightly less for the new-generation C-HR small SUV (three months).

Toyota says new Corolla and Yaris Cross orders will take five to six months to arrive, depending on the specification, whereas a new Kluger will take between seven and eight months to arrive at your dealership.

Having been the victim of a sales explosion when it was first released, culminating in wait times of more than 12 months in some instances, the LandCruiser 300 Series has enjoyed a steady decline in its average delivery delay over the past 18 months or so, with new orders now said to take “under six months” to fill.

At this stage there’s no official word on wait times for the Yaris, Corolla Cross or Fortuner, though the former two have never been subject to as longer delays as model like the RAV4 and Camry hybrids.

carsales has it on good authority that fresh Fortuner orders are also hovering around the six-month mark, as per the 300 Series, but there’s no update on the Prado or Camry – both of which will be superseded by new generations in coming months.

However, we understand that some customers who placed orders for the outgoing (15-year-old) Prado more than 12 months ago may have to pay up to $10,000 more for the all-new 250 Series.

Toyota’s delivery update came today as the Japanese brand celebrated sales of more than 100,000 hybrid vehicles within a 12-month period for the first time (100,761 units last financial year), which says is the long overdue result of freer supply.

“We always knew that supply constraints were masking the true level of demand for Toyota vehicles, especially hybrids,” Toyota Australia sales, marketing and franchise operations vice-president Sean Hanley said in a press release announcing the market-leading brand’s June 2024 sales today.

“Substantially higher production this year has enabled us to deliver 121,298 vehicles to the end of June – 31.5 per cent higher than the 92,235 vehicles we delivered in the same period last year.”

Toyota Australia made the bold move last month to promise an all-hybrid range of passenger models and car-based SUVs, leaving only ladder-frame models (like the HiLux, LandCruiser, Prado and Fortuner) and performance models (including the GR Yaris, GR Corolla and GR Supra) as its only remaining purely combustion-powered vehicles.
