Tokyo Auto Salon: 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N NPX1 previews EV performance parts

Hyundai is working on a raft of official N Performance Parts for its electric super-SUV, including new powertrain sounds and tunes

The 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N NPX1 concept has previewed an upcoming range of N Performance Parts designed and developed by Hyundai for its new electric performance flagship.

Revealed today at the Tokyo Auto Salon, the NPX1 is decked-out with a prototype carbon front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, rear wing spoiler, lightweight hybrid carbon wheels, high-performance brake pads and lowering springs.

Other enhancements include Alcantara trim and upholstery for the cabin, along with racing bucket seats.

Hyundai says the prototype N Performance Parts applied to the NPX1 concept will be further developed and finalised in the coming months before going on sale later in the year, while some other more advanced powertrain upgrades are being finetuned.

“Not limited to tuning parts, we are also developing software customisation such as sound and vehicle calibration by OTA updates which will open a completely new category of EV customisation for an exciting future ahead for the tuning community,” N Brand Management Group vice-president Joon Park said.

All this innovation will be supplemented by a widening of availability of N Performance parts for Hyundai’s existing internal combustion N models, which is sorely lacking in Australia compared to other markets, especially Europe.

The first IONIQ 5 N customer cars will be handed over next month and carsales understands there is considerably more demand than anticipated for the Korean brand’s inaugural battery-electric N-car – despite its $111,000 asking price.
