Toyota has unveiled a handful of concept cars ahead of this year’s Japan Mobility Show, one of which reimagines the brand’s luxury Century limo as a hi-tech four-door with hidden sliding doors, huge rims and muscular proportions.
Complete with sliding doors and a sleek, sloping roofline, Toyota has teased its next luxury barge ahead of Japan’s largest auto show which kicks off in Tokyo on October 29.
At first glance, the concept looks like a regular coupe, however, closer inspection reveals a set of rear doors that slide backwards – despite there being no clear panel gaps in certain images – while the front doors slide forward to almost line up with the front edge of the limo.
The combination provides suicide door-like access to the cabin, which should be easy given its lack of B-pillars.
The cabin appears to feature a single seat in the front row, and while there’s no shots to reveal a second row, rear door access would suggest there’s at least two seats tucked away in there.
Up front, a long, sculpted bonnet features dual vents, while the top portion of the grille is enclosed, opening to allow air to flow through the bottom half, with quad-beam headlights appearing either side.
Meanwhile, illuminated badges feature at both ends along with ‘CENTURY’ lettering on the tailgate.
Described as ‘One of One’ in Toyota’s marketing materials, the big unit is a far cry from the Century SUV sold in Japan today, yet appears to take styling cues from the high-riding SUV.
It also mimics the Polestar 4’s windowless rear end, with the tail-light clusters featuring four LED light blocks, the top of which are connected by a full-width LED bar.
While the handful of concept cars teased this week are exactly that – concepts – it proves Toyota is keen on delivering on its promise of “no more boring cars” and we’re here for it.
