Toyota cuts Tarago prices

Toyota Australia has wound back the clock on its Tarago people-mover range, by slashing the admission price to just $45,490 plus on-road costs – pricing not seen since the late 1990s.

The range-wide price drop includes reductions of between $1500 and $1716, while the Tarago line-up now also benefits from an uptick in equipment.

Tarago GLi, GLX and Ultima variants all adopt 3D sat-nav and a reversing camera via a 6.1-inch touch-screen infotainment system.

Other upgrades for the Tarago interior include soft-touch materials for the dashboard and piano-black trim garnishes for the centre cluster and air-vent surrounds.

Toyota has added new electrostatic HVAC controls it says are easier to locate and operate, while the Optiton instrument panel is redesigned to incorporate a 4.2-inch colour multi-information display (MID), semi-circular speedometer and horizontal tachometer.

For GLX and Ultima V6 models, there are new seats with Grandluxe upholstery, the GLX also adding front seat heaters. Both variants now include HID headlights with cornering function.

Toyota says it has also revised the Tarago’s electrically-assisted power steering system to improve on-centre feel, and certified both four and six-cylinder engines to meet Euro 5 emissions standards.

Fuel consumption and performance figures remain unchanged. For the 2.4-litre four-cylinder range that translates to 125kW/224Nm and 8.9L/100km while the 3.5-litre V6 makes 202kW/340Nm and consumes 10.2L/100km (ADR Combined).

The Tarago comes with a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating and is equipped as standard with seven airbags, stability and traction control, anti-lock brakes and hill-start assist.

All variants are covered by Toyota’s Service Advantage capped-price servicing scheme.

The current XR50-series Tarago has been on sale locally since 2006, with V6-powered models added to the range in 2007. Toyota has sold more than 102,000 Taragos in Australia since the first generation was launched in 1983.
