Toyota Fortuner prices slashed by up to $5500

More standard features and price cuts of at least $5000 for Toyota’s slow-selling off-road SUV

Toyota has trimmed at least $5000 from the price of every model in its Fortuner range, sales of which are more than 40 per cent down so far this year.

Less than 2000 Fortuna models have been registered to September this year – much less than chief rivals including Toyota’s own Prado, the Ford Everest, Holden Trailblazer, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Isuzu MU-X.

The dramatic price cuts – of up to $5500 or more than 10 per cent for the most popular GXL variants – are accompanied by more standard features across the line-up.

The large seven-seat off-road range now starts at $42,590 for the entry-level Fortuna GX manual and tops out at less than $57,000 for the Crusade auto.

Base GX variants score new 17-inch alloy wheels instead of same-size steel wheels and rear parking sensors, while the mid-range GXL is now equipped with satellite navigation, Toyota Link and digital radio, all operated via a 7.0-inch display audio screen.

GXL auto buyers can now opt for a dark brown leather-accented interior, which includes powered front seats.

At the top of the range, the Crusade is now fitted with a premium 11-speaker JBL audio system, heated and eight-way power-adjustable front seats and LED instead of halogen fog lamps.

There are no mechanical changes and the Fortuner continues to be powered by a 130kW/450Nm 2.8-litre four-cylinder common-rail direct-injection turbo-diesel engine with the choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. Braked towing capacity remains 3000kg for the manual and 2,800kg for the auto.
