Toyota has gone to town with massive list of accessories for the new-look 2021 Toyota HiLux range launched today.
More than 60 all-new Toyota HiLux genuine accessories have been developed for the upgraded ute, after the brand invested over $10 million and “thousands of hours in the design, engineering and prototyping of new accessories and components”.
There are steel bull bars, nudge bars, tow bars, tub liners with rail cappings, hard tonneau covers, chassis-mounted fold-out steps, a trundle drawer for cab-chassis variants, 18-inch alloy wheels and a range of protective fittings for the exterior of the HiLux.
All genuine accessories are covered by the same five-year/unlimited-km factory warranty that Toyota offers with its vehicles.
Sales of accessories for popular utes generate significant profits for the big dual-cab pick-up players, such as Mitsubishi, Ford and Toyota, as do the over-accessorised tough-truck flagship models.
Range-topping HiLux Rogue model grades, for which pricing will be released in the next few weeks, even get a remote-controlled roller shutter and marine-grade weather-proof tub lining.
Taking on the recently-updated Ford Ranger Wildtrak X, which has also been upgraded with a remote-controlled roller shutter, the Toyota HiLux Rogue also comes with a new-look grille and bold wheel-arch extensions, a unique sports bar and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Toyota’s off-road flagship, HiLux Rugged X, comes with an all-new high-tensile steel front bar with integrated LED light bar and fog lights.
There’s also a high-strength metal bashplate that will be winch-compatible, together with off-road recovery hooks, unique wheel-arch extensions, unique rock rails (side steps), black 17-inch alloy wheels, a snorkel and Rugged X decals on the flanks of the tub.
Some of the add-ons from the Rogue and Rugged X are expected to be offered as accessories on regular models.
"We have newly designed or redesigned and re-engineered more than 60 individual components across the HiLux and Fortuner model ranges," said Toyota Australia's accessories development manager Harisch Karki.
He noted that local development and testing of components ensures functional, high-quality accessories.
Other accessories for the facelifted HiLux ute include a range of driving lights, seat covers, rear canopies, bed slides, side steps, side rails and roof racks with fittings to carry bikes, skis or kayaks.
The Toyota Fortuner SUV, which is based on the same ladder platform as the HiLux, gets locally developed and manufactured accessories too, including extra light sets, seat covers, bull bars, nudge bars, body protection items, 18-inch alloy wheels and also roof racks with specialist equipment carriers.
We’ve finally reviewed the facelifted the 2021 Toyota HiLux and while it doesn’t reinvent the ute, it’s a solid machine and those wanting to accessorise the vehicle with official parts now appear to be spoiled for choice.
