Toyota will release a limited edition LandCruiser wagon this month to celebrate the upcoming occasion of the legendary model's 60th anniversary.
Available for a short time only, the anniversary model adds more than $5000 of additional equipment to the LandCruiser 200 Series GXL on which it is based, including leather-accented upholstery, Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity, touch-screen satellite navigation with a four-CD changer, premium steering wheel and shift lever, silver roof rails and 60th anniversary badges.
Twin-turbo V8 diesel special-edition models also gain Toyota's acclaimed Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS), which is normally a $3,250 option. All V8 petrol LandCruisers include KDSS as standard.
Toyota LandCruiser 60th Anniversary models will also feature new 'Shimmer Blue' paint which is unique to the limited edition model. Optionally, 'Crystal Pearl' (white) and 'Graphite' (grey) are also offered.
The 60th anniversary signifies the 1951 development of the Toyota "Jeep" BJ prototype, which was larger and more powerful than the original US Jeep from which the concept was derived. Regular production began in 1953 with the "LandCruiser" name being adopted a year later.
In Australia, one of the first LandCruiser customers was construction magnate Sir Leslie Thiess, who purchased several vehicles for use on the rugged construction trails of the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Scheme.
The quality, durability and reliability of LandCruiser in tough local conditions has led to Australia being the largest single market for the iconic off-roader -- accounting for more than 10 per cent of all LandCruisers ever built.
All new LandCruisers, including the 60th anniversary edition, are covered by Toyota Service Advantage, which caps the price for a standard scheduled service at $210 during the first three years or 60,000km (whichever comes first).
The LandCruiser 60th Anniversary models are available now and are priced from $79,990.
