Toyota raises the bar, cuts prices
Volume brand responds to new passenger vehicle tariff, but it's not all good newsAustralia's number-one selling car company is determined to remain competitive in the local market. Accordingly, Toyota has rejigged pricing and specification for its imported passenger vehicles from January 1. The changes are in line with the federal government lowering the imported passenger vehicle tariff from 10 to five per cent.
Unfortunately, while Toyota has reduced prices for most of its imported passenger-vehicle range, pricing is stagnant or has risen for commercial vehicles and locally-manufactured cars.
Here's the breakdown in detail:
Price decreases or equipment upgrades
Yaris YR, YRS hatch -$650
Yaris YRX hatch - $800
Yaris YRS sedan - $690
Yaris YRX - $840
Corolla hatch: equipment upgrade from November 2009; standard stability/traction control for Ascent variants - $350
Corolla Conquest sedan - $1000
Corolla Ultima sedan - $1300
Tarago four-cylinder GLi - $2260
Tarago Ultima - $2770
Tarago other variants - $2160
Kluger - $500 (includes 4x4 models already subject to five per cent tariff)
