Toyota rolls out upgraded HiLux crew cabs
Lucrative variants in Toyota's one-tonne range gain safety and comfort featuresToyota has completed the upgrade program for the current HiLux LCV range with dual-cab models gaining the added equipment previously introduced in the single- and extra-cab models.
With the dual cabs comprising half the model range, and typically earning plenty for the company in high-end versions, the HiLux is now as good as it's likely to get in its current iteration. The new five-speed automatic transmission is made available in the dual cab models now, lowering diesel fuel consumption by over six per cent to 8.7L/100km, according to Toyota.
Inside, the dual cab models gain new audio systems and revised interior colouring (black) and materials. The SR5 level of trim incorporates a new reversing camera and satellite navigation system, with SUNA traffic updates. The new audio system head unit measures 6.1 inches and incorporates Bluetooth connectivity, auxiliary and iPod/USB inputs. Remote control switchgear on the steering wheel operates audio, phone and voice recognition facilities. Trip computer functions – previously unavailable in the SR variants – display in an LCD unit and encompass average/instantaneous fuel consumption, average speed, cruising range, external temperature, compass and time.
Safety for the dual cab models is improved with stability control moving across from the option column (for the cost of $1500 previously) to the standard column for the SR 4x4 model. This, combined with front-passenger seatbelt reminder and lap/sash seatbelt in the centre rear seat, has earned the dual cabs a five-star ANCAP rating, joining the single and extra-cab models in the range.
"HiLux is popular throughout Australia and these improvements will be welcomed by a wide range of users including mine workers, farmers and other businesspeople who require a tough, reliable vehicle," said Tony Cramb, Toyota's executive director for sales and marketing. "Families will also appreciate the added safety, technology and other features that make travelling in a HiLux even more comfortable," he was quoted saying in a press release.
The flagship SR5 diesel dual cab is now offered with a $1500 leather-accented seat option, which includes power adjustment for the driver's seat. Toyota is already selling the updated HiLux 4x4 at a price premium ranging between 1.2 and 3.0 per cent.
