Sunday August 2 is National Tree day which, as the name suggests, is a celebration of trees and their importance to our planet.
Held since 1996 and co-founded by Planet Ark and Olivia Newton-John, more than two million volunteers have planted over 13 million native Australian shrubs and trees.
While the planning and organisation of this national event is carried out by Planet Ark, Toyota is National Tree Day's major sponsor, which helps provide the funding needed to get the message out and to keep the event running strong.
Toyota is celebrating its 10th year as a major promoter of the event, a commitment that Planet Ark's CEO, Sean Barrett, says is crucial to spreading the Tree Day message.
"Toyota and its National Dealer Network have played a vital role in mobilising these volunteers and making the event the success that it is today.
"We are looking forward to working with Toyota once again in 2009 when together we hope to reach the milestone of planting 15 million native shrubs and trees over the event's history," Barrett said.
Toyota's Senior Executive of Sales and Marketing, Dave Buttner, added that along with its strong support for National Tree Day, Toyota was dedicated to growing its environmentally-friendly practices.
"Toyota is delighted to reflect on and continue a decade-long partnership with an event that makes a real difference.
"It's a cause which allows our dealers to bring their local communities together year on year to give something back to the environment and a day that Toyota staff, Dealers and ambassadors find most rewarding," added Mr Buttner.
Toyota's Dave Buttner stated that "…support for National Tree Day is an extension of our ongoing commitment to environmentally responsible practices throughout the business, reflected boldly by the launch of the all new third generation Prius in Australia this week."
