If fantasy became reality, would bored millionaires all be driving around in jacked-up Ford Ranger Raptor-inspired sports cars?
Well, if the RapStang and Rugatti Baptor didn’t tickle your fancy, perhaps this jacked-up Toyota Supra mud-slinger will?
Created by the talented Rain Prisk, who also penned the schmick Range Rover Velar ute, this high-riding sports car has a striking look that blends all the curves of the Toyota Supra with extreme off-road mods.
Indeed, this could be the love-child of a Toyota Supra and a Ford Ranger Raptor, with more ride-height than most military vehicles and off-road tyres bigger than some bathtubs.
The body work required a bit of modification to get monster treads in there, complete with pumped wheel-arches and even a side step to help the driver clamber into the cabin. Fast, rugged and practical.
The two-door Toyota Supra Baja buggy has a snorkel to allow for deep water fording, while the front-end features a reworked fascia with winch and tow hooks in case the new LandCruiser 300 needs a tow.
The suspension would need to be all-new, in order to provide increased wheel articulation and support the chunky hoops. If the springs were soft enough – and the power gains were significant – it may even pop wheelies!
Presumably this flight of fancy is powered by the same 3.0-litre straight six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine (250kW/500Nm) found in the regular Toyota Supra, which provides the rear-drive coupe with enough gristle to reach 100km/h in 4.3 seconds when paired with an eight-speed automatic.
Given the extra equipment – including the roof racks and canoe – the Toyota Supra Raptor would likely take a little longer to reach that speed.
But given this is already a far-fetched fantasy, let's assume the engine has been bored and stroked to 3.4 litres, has bigger HKS turbos, completely new cylinder-heads, a freer-flowing exhaust system and now belts out 410kW and 690Nm. Channeled through a sequential six-speed gearbox, naturally.
Throw in some massaging seats to ease the pain after your dune jumping and the Supraptor could well make the agonisingly long waiting time for the born-again Supra worthwhile.
