Toyota unboxes Pizza producing pick-up truck at SEMA and we all want a slice

This one-of-a-kind hydrogen-powered Toyota Tundra ute is a unique offering: it's a mobile pizza factory!

Unveiled at the 2018 SEMA show in the USA, this curious collaboration between Toyota and Pizza Hut has us licking our lips at the thought of having pizza anywhere, anytime.

To make it even more tempting, the Toyota Tundra PIE Pro is hydrogen powered meaning you can have your pizza and essentially save the environment at the same time, with the only emissions from this vehicle being water vapour and a full-size Pizza Hut pizza.

Ed Laukes, a Toyota marketing executive, says that turning its popular Tundra truck into something unique is all about innovation.

"Its great strengths are its extreme capability and eminent versatility, and what better way to illustrate that than by turning it into something completely unique – a hydrogen fuel cell electric-powered, pizza-making robotic vehicle!"

The main ingredients of this pizza machine are a base made of a Toyota Tundra SR5, while the sauce covering it is a reassembled rolling chassis. Then the meaty ingredients of the hydrogen fuel-cell electric engine are borrowed from the Toyota Mirai EV.

To top it off, the Tundra PIE Pro's bed has been turned into a virtual pizza factory on wheels. Yep, it has a fridge, a pair of computer-guided articulating robotic arms, naturally, and a high-efficiency oven all powered by the hydrogen electric powertrain. Super supreme pizza anyone?

The pizza-making process takes up to seven minutes, which is faster than ordering it from the local pizza shop. The whole process is automated and the robotic arms do all the work for you: Just press the 'on' button and dream about devouring the finished product.

A second robotic arm then takes the finished pizza, places it on the cutting board to cut it into six slices, boxes it up, and delivers it to an eagerly waiting customer.

Unfortunately, this is only a one-off special concept but with enough interest and our changing attitudes towards having food delivered straight to our door could perhaps, maybe, potentially, see pizza making robot cars roaming our streets putting pizza delivery people out of a job.
