Toyota wheels out new LandCruiser Altitude

Booming LandCruiser 200 Series sales haven't stopped Toyota releasing another special-edition

Just a week after announcing a limited-edition Prado of the same name , Toyota has released a new LandCruiser Altitude special-edition.

The latest in a series of Altitude specials based on the LandCruiser, Prado and Kluger comes despite booming sales of Toyota's biggest SUV.

Upgraded in late 2015, when Toyota lifted prices by almost $5000, the 200 Series LandCruiser found almost 12,000 Australian homes in 2016 (up almost 30 per cent on 2015 figures) and accounted for more than 85 per cent of the mainstream upper-large SUV market segment.

Now comes the Altitude special based on the most popular eight-seat GXL turbo-diesel, priced $4630 higher at $93,460 plus on-road costs but brandishing a extra standard features including some from more expensive models.

They include leather-accented upholstery, powered front seats, refrigerated cool box, chrome-tipped front air-vents, brushed alloy-look ornamentation, LED Optitron meters and a 4.2-inch multi-information display accessible through a new steering-wheel switch.

Externally, the Altitude is distinguished by LED fog lights, rain-sensing wipers and Altitude badging.

There are no changes to the LC200's 200kW/650Nm 4.5-litre twin-turbo diesel V8 or six-speed automatic transmission, a powertrain that consumes 9.5L/100km (claimed combined-cycle) and emits 250g/km of CO2.

All LandCruiser 200 wagons continue to come with seven airbags, reversing camera, stability/traction control, multi-terrain anti-skid brakes, hill-start assist control, trailer sway control and emergency brake signal.

Standard GXL equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, aluminium side steps, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone climate-control air-conditioning, roof rails, 6.1-inch touch-screen display, satellite-navigation, six-speaker audio and digital radio.

Just 600 Altitude special-edition vehicles will be available in five exterior paint colours: black (no extra cost) and premium white, silver, graphite and blue ($550 extra).
