Toyota has previewed a new turn-key race car based on its latest Toyota GR Supra that has been developed specially for the GT4 racing.
Developed by Toyota's Gazoo Racing (GR) performance and motorsport division, the new concept for a track-bred racer sees the Toyota GR Supra GT4 get redesigned aerodynamics, race suspension, bigger brakes and more power.
Starting with the Toyota GR Supra GT4's body, the racer gets a large rear wing, redesigned rear diffuser and a prominent front diffuser that all conform to strict FIA regs.
But instead of carbon-fibre, the Supra GT4's aero aids are made from what Toyota says are 'natural fibre composites' including hemp and flax.
Other changes include a set of lightweight 18-inch alloys that are wrapped with Pirelli slick tyres, plus bigger Brembo brakes, stiffer springs, uprated dampers and different anti-roll bars.
Inside, there's a stripped-out interior that makes room for a full roll cage, race seats and fire extinguisher system.
Under the bonnet, Toyota claims the Supra GT4 concept gets the same turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six as the road car but adds a race-spec ECU that liberates more power, although performance figures have yet to be released.
Like the standard Supra, the GT4 race car gets a limited-slip differential and feeds its power to the rear wheels through the same automatic transmission as the road car.
Set to be officially revealed at the Geneva motor show this week, Toyota says the Supra GT4 concept will be used to gauge public perception to see if there's demand for a GT4 racer based on the Supra coupe.
