Sony took the covers off its highly-anticipated and long-awaited new PlayStation 5 platform as well as a handful of upcoming games for the new gaming console on Friday.

Aside from the new unit's Storm Trooper look and upgraded controllers, what really caught our attention was the all-new Gran Turismo car racing game -- the replacement for one of the best motorsport simulators around.

Not a lot of specific details have been released but everything we really need to know right now is evident in the game's video trailer, which shows some of the most desired cars in the world in perfect detail.

Everything from Aston Martin DB11 to Toyota Supra and of course the GT-trademark concept cars that you will never be able to own in the real world -- like the Mazda RX-Vision GT3 -- are represented in this first look.

There also appears to be several open-wheeler and touring car categories to race in, plus iconic heritage racers like the Gulf branded Porsche 917.

As well as online and offline multiplayer modes, you’ll be able to pursue your dream of being the next Daniel Ricciardo or Scott McLaughlin in career mode, where you can navigate your way around GT Town buying, selling, modifying, maintaining and of course racing your own garage of cars.

Compared to the PS4, the PS5 is more powerful and has a higher output, meaning plugging the console into your 4K HD LCD TV will give you the most vivid and realistic gameplay in the history of the video game franchise.

The cutaways of the environment around the tracks, from mountains to forests, are so realistic they almost upstage the cars.

No official release date or price has yet been announced for the new console or game, but we anticipate it will be a very long waiting list either way.
