TVR Griffith supercar teased

It's been a long time coming, but it seems that niche British sports car maker TVR is well and truly on the comeback trail, as evidenced by this teaser video named 'TVR The Rebirth'.

The video is a time-lapse compilation showing a number of artists from Gordon Murray Design using tape to create three vehicles -- a classic Tuscan on the left, a Tuscan Speed Six on the right… and in the middle? Well, that's the all-new TVR supercar.

Expected to rip to 100km/h in less than four seconds, thanks to a Cosworth-developed V8 engine, the new-generation TVR has already attracted more than 350 cash deposits of around $10,000 a pop, which accounts for more than the first year's entire allocation of 250 units.

Deliveries of the new TVR sports car are expected to begin in 2018 after the car's reveal in 2017 and the name 'Griffith' has been speculated (but not officially confirmed).

Teased by TVR in late December 2015 (above), the new vehicle has a strong visual connection with TVRs of yore. The new model will be a sleek two-door, rear-drive coupe and convertible with a front-mounted engine hidden under its long bonnet. TVR says it'll be offered with a manual transmission.

The British car-maker has always crafted light-weight cars in the past and the TVR Griffith is expected to continue this theme with a kerb weight expected to be 100kg less than a tiny 1250kg Holden Barina!

This will be possible thanks to the use of exotic, expensive materials such as aluminium and carbon-fibre, all of which will be fabricated at the company's new manufacturing facility in Wales – hence the Griffith name.

Pricing is still to be confirmed but TVR says it'll be less than £100,000, roughly $A195,000. Because the cars will be built in right-hand drive for the UK market, the new V8-powered TVR sports car is almost certain to be sold in Australia.
