Cupra Australia has confirmed to carsales its long-awaited Leon Sportstourer will be offered here in not one, but two versions, with the 200kW plug-in hybrid (PHEV) set to lead the 245kW VZx into local showrooms.
We don’t have the exact timings just yet, but we do know the electrified performance wagon will arrive Down Under before the full-fat flagship, with more details to be announced in the coming weeks.
The confirmation came when carsales contacted the Spanish performance brand regarding the just-published ADR certification and sales approval of the updated Leon range, in which the VZe appeared as the sole wagon variant.
A local spokesperson said this was reflective of the longer lead time on the VZx halo.
While not quite a concrete confirmation of upcoming product plans, the facelifted Leon’s homologation data strongly suggests the core line-up will feature a similar powertrain line-up to the recently released Cupra Terramar and comprise a 110kW mild hybrid, 200kW plug-in hybrid and the previously confirmed 245kW 2.0-litre turbo-petrol.
Odds are 150kW and 195kW (2.0-litre) versions of the hatch will come later – likely arriving with the VZx Sportstourer – given Cupra’s love of a staggered roll-out and glaring holes in the powertrain hierarchy.
Odds are the new Loen will be offered in S (110kW), V (150kW), VZ (195kW), VZe (200kW) and VZx (245kW) forms when the line-up is at full strength, the latter two being available as wagons as well as the default hatch configuration.
The VZx will be the only grade to come with all-wheel drive.
Pricing, specifications and further details of the 2025 Cupra Leon range will be announced later in the year.
