The holy grail for tyre manufacturers is finding that perfect blend of handling and low rolling resistance.
Kumho has been honoured with a Red Dot Design Award this year for its KH27 Ecowing ES01, suggesting that the judges, at least, feel the tyre brand has come closer than many. It's the second year in succession that Kumho has snatched the design award – the previous occasion the company received a Red Dot award for its Ecsta LE Sport KU39.
This year the judges named the Ecowing on the strength of its low rolling resistance, combined with acceptable handling due to the use of silicon compound in its construction.
"Kumho is constantly developing new tyre technology and the Red Dot Award for the KH27 is further proof of Kumho's commitment to innovation," said David Basha, national marketing and training manager for the brand in Australia.
"Kumho's Ecowing ES01 fuel saving and environmentally friendly characteristics is outstanding and it is a real coup to have gained international recognition for the research and development work our designers and engineers have put into the low rolling resistance tyre."
The tyre was judged among 4662 products (from 54 countries) submitted to the judging panel for the Red Dot Design Awards.
