TYRES: Kumho gung ho on environment
Tyre company teams up with environmental organisation Greenfleet to help tackle climate changeEnvironmental organisation Greenfleet and tyre manufacturer Kumho have joined forces to enhance the Australian treescape with a program that will see a native tree planted for every Kumho Ecowing tyre sold in the country.
The program is expected to result in the planting of at least 5000 trees, adding to the more than 7.5 million native trees planted around Australia by Greenfleet since 1997.
Trees play a vital role in balancing the environment by absorbing carbon from the atmosphere, while also providing wildlife habitats and improving soil and water quality.
The Kumho-Greenfleet program was launched by the planting of a tree in Melbourne by Kumho ambassador Grant Hackett and Greenfleet CEO Sara Gipton.
Gipton said the program will benefit the work of Greenfleet in both public awareness and the offsetting of emissions.
"Greenfleet's aim is to create a low carbon future for Australia. We hope this promotion will increase consumer awareness of climate change and show that easy choices made by people collectively make a difference. It's not just about offsetting, it's also about what you buy and how you use it every day," Gipton said.
"Kumho's promotion will also introduce many Australians to Greenfleet's work which aims to help people reduce their environmental footprint, highlight the benefits of planting native forests and encourage people to donate to Greenfleet to make an even bigger difference," she continued.
"This promotion reinforces the old adage that every little bit counts and buying low resistance tyres does reduce average fuel consumption. By teaming up with Greenfleet, Kumho is giving something back to the environment and offsetting the impact tyres have on it," said Kumho Tyre Australia managing director Ki Young Kim.
Kumho Ecowing tyres offer lower rolling resistance and are made with an environmentally friendly compound rather than the commonly-used petroleum based products.
