TYRES: New Hankook tyre addresses economy and grip
Hankook Kinergy Eco tyre aims at best of all possible worldsA tyre that combines low rolling-resistance with better-than-average wet-weather road grip has been introduced by Korean tyre manufacturer Hankook.
The new Kinergy Eco tyre is claimed to provide 12 per cent less rolling resistance than a conventional tyre, while improving wet braking distances by eight per cent over other low rolling-resistance tyres.
Combined with a tread-pattern design that lowers noise levels and improves comfort, the new tyre employs nano-scale silica particles as part of its ploy to reduce rolling resistance.
The new Kinergy Eco uses a large tread-block design in the tyre centre, plus self-sharpening tread-block edges for improved grip in all conditions. A sawtooth tread pattern helps evacuate water into three wide, circumferential grooves, while a semi-rib outer-block design improves stability and road grip.
"Australian consumer values have changed a great deal in recent years and they want tyres that reduce fuel consumption - - and as a result CO2 emissions - - but they won't sacrifice safety or driving comfort to satisfy those requirements," says Hankook Tyre Australia's chief executive officer, Paul Park.
"To us, the Kinergy Eco marks the start of a new era in LRR tyres."
The new Kinergy Eco is available in a range of sizes suitable for cars in the Australian small- and light-car segments.
