TYRES: New ultra high performance Kumho

Small hot hatches, large luxury sedans and everything in between are targeted by Kumho's latest performance tyre

Ecsta 4X KU22 is the term that must be memorised by those seeking the ultimate performance tyre from Kumho.

The new all-purpose tyre has been developed to function in climates ranging from hot and dry to pouring rain, while delivering a quiet and smooth ride around town and on the open road.

Kumho says the new tyre is “Ideal for luxury sports cars” with “race inspired” technology including a newly-developed silica-based compound and twin-belt construction. To maximise road grip, a new high-grip resin has been used to bond the nano-sized silica in the tyre construction. The nano-size silica particles contribute to tyre life by reducing small gaps in the tread to provide a bigger contact area while providing more effective water dispersion.

The asymmetric tread contributes to durability, handling and quietness, while angled tread blocks, with varying depth sipes and a sloped tie bar, strengthen the area under load while reducing wear.

Wide circumferential grooves and a series of cross grooves are aimed at providing effective water clearance in even the wettest conditions.

Kumho says the KU22 was “ranked the number one all-season ultra-high performance value tyre by Tire Rack, America's leading independent tyre retailer, after it excelled in its regular tyre tests which compare all major brands in real-world conditions with wet and dry comparisons of stopping distance, cornering, performance driving, slalom and lap times.” It was the most consistent tyre and claimed six top scores, four seconds and one third across the 11 tests.

The KU22 is available in 30 different sizes to suit anything from 15 to 20 inch wheels. This covers small hot hatches up to large passenger cars.
Kumho also offers a road-hazard warranty for KU22 tyres that covers damage from road objects including gutters and pot holes for an added cost of $3.95 per tyre.
