TYRES: Toyo Nano Energy 3 released
Maker claims energy-efficient tyres save fuel without compromising dynamic safety or comfortThe Toyo Tires Nano Energy 3 soon to be launched in Australia sets a new standard in all-round ability, according to the local wholesaler, and is available in a wide range of sizes to suit over half the new cars sold in Australia.
Developed primarily to save fuel, the new, low-rolling resistance tyre has managed to improve on safety, performance and energy efficiency benchmarks set by its predecessor, the Toyo TEO Plus. Yet the new tyre is being introduced here for no extra cost.
"Early energy efficient tyres were once regarded as specialised with limited application," Toyo's general manager of tyres, Matthew Grovenor, said.
"Now fuel saving through tyres has become such an obvious goal that it is essential for tyres intended for family and fleet use."
The gains made by the Nano Energy 3 are not just incremental either. Toyo claims that the new tyre offers a 23 per cent reduction in rolling resistance, along with a nine per cent improvement in wet-weather braking from 100km/h and a five per cent jump in dry-weather performance.
Despite all that, the Nano Energy 3 runs quieter – down to 69 decibels passing – and can potentially save money by wearing slower.
"Choosing replacement tyres based on low purchase price was increasingly recognised as a false economy," Grovenor was quoted saying in a press release.
"Families buy on rational criteria influenced by safety, mileage and value. Fleet decisions are partially determined by fuel economy, health and safety requirements and frequency of replacement.
"Tyres epitomised by Nano Energy 3 provide safety and handling and make a contribution to reduced emissions and increased fuel savings, which are felt at the pumps," Grovenor said.
Toyo plans to sell the new tyre in 41 different sizes – between 13 and 17 inches, with aspect ratio as low as 45. An original equipment version of the tyre is already here, fitted to the new Mazda3 at the factory.
