UK EV infrastructure firm charges into Saudi Arabia

A Saudi university has commissioned a British firm to install its campus EV charging infrastructure

UK firm Elektromotive describes itself as 'the world's leading provider of technology and engineering solutions for electric vehicle recharging stations'. Which doesn't mean much on the street now, but with auto makers working overtime to get plug-in product to market post haste, in the not too distant future it will.

Elektromotive has signed what it calls one of the world's biggest ever EV infrastructure deals with Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) to install 150 of its Elektrobay charging stations across the university's Jeddah campus by September.

KAUST has bought 150 EVs for its internal campus transport network with a view to reducing its carbon footprint and improving local air quality.

Elektromotive says the deal shows how Britain's investment in low-carbon economics is paying off in leadership in the development of EV infrastructure technologies. In addition to the 160 units it runs in the UK, the company already has Elektrobay export contracts in Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany and Ireland. It's talking of major expansion plans domestically and overseas.
