Ultimate G just the thing for Oz fans

Now that Mercedes-Benz has all but confirmed the G-Class's Australian introduction (see here), offroad and performance enthusiasts will be able to look at the Brabus G V12 S Biturbo with more than just idle fancy.

Having made its debut at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show in March, this hardcore version of the Gelandewagen pumps out a staggering 515kW -- thanks to a thoroughly modified V12 bi-turbo engine.

The V12 starts out life as the 5.5-litre unit from the S600 but tuning house Brabus bores and strokes it for a final capacity of 6.3-litres. The competed unit generates an earth-shaking 1320Nm but in deference to the five-speed auto transmission, Brabus pegs it to 'just' 1100Nm.

Brabus claims the un-aerodynamic behemoth accelerates from zero to 100km/h in just 4.3 seconds, only a few tenths behind Lamborghini's Gallardo. Top speed is more than 260km/h, but Brabus has limited the v-max to 240km/h.

According to (in)famous German tuner Brabus, the "G V12 S Biturbo offers acceleration performance almost unimaginable for a true off-roader".

Fitted with up to 22-inch alloys, shod with either Pirelli or Yokohama 295/40 aspect ratio tyres, the Brabus G V12 S Biturbo is not really equipped to handle the kind of offroad rigors that the 'official' Project Overland six-wheel variants will be put through by the Australian Army.

The high performance German is priced from €379,000 [Ed: $660,000K plus LCT and GST – say around $850,000 give or take] and includes a luxury interior featuring "stainless-steel scuff plates with illuminated Brabus logo and a handcrafted Brabus fully leather interior made from especially soft and breathable Brabus Mastik leather." It's a Brabus in case you were confused.

And in case you need an more reasons to ante up the dollars, the German tuning house can also equip the SUV as a "fully functional all-terrain office on wheels".
