Unique Porsche 911 GT3 special-edition for Australia

Touring Package strips back 911 GT3 as Aussie limited edition takes the concept even further

A very special limited-edition Porsche 911 GT3 has been released exclusively in Australia, underlining the importance of the Aussie market to the German sports car brand.

Made in Germany but wearing Aussie flags on its B-pillars, the … wait for it … Porsche 911 GT3 70 Years Porsche Australia Edition is limited to just 25 units and priced at $494,300 plus on-road costs – $124,700 more than its donor car.

Powered by the same 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated boxer six as the new 911 GT3 Touring Package also announced today, the 70 Years edition pumps 375kW of power and 470Nm of torque to the rear wheels via six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions.

The globally-available Touring Package for the GT3 ($369,600 plus ORCs) deletes some eye candy like the huge swan-neck rear wing, and instead gets a retractable active spoiler for those who don’t want the racer look.

But it does come with the same rip-snorting performance as the motorsport-inspired Porsche 911 GT3, including a flat six that revs to 9000rpm and propels the track-ready two-door coupe to 100km/h in as little as 3.4 seconds (3.9sec for the manual).

Top speeds are equally as arresting: 318km/h for the PDK auto and 320km/h for the manual.

This same performance is offered with the extremely limited Porsche 911 GT3 70 Years model, but it gets plenty of extra kit designed to cement it place as a collector’s car.

The most striking change is arguably the unique Fish Silver Grey Metallic exterior paint work, which is a modern take on the silver finish of the first two Porsche 356 vehicles imported to Australia in 1951 and will be unique to the vehicle in the short term.

There’s also unique ‘Darksilver’ alloy wheels with Fish Silver Grey Metallic borders, while Darksilver also covers the dashboard, centre console trim and key fob.

In addition, there are 70th anniversary logos on the dashboard, centre console and door sills.

As well as Australian flags on the B-pillars, the Porsche 911 GT3 70 Years comes with unique bucket seats featuring leather side bolsters and retro fabric upholstering in the middle.

A ‘crayon’ coloured gear shift topper and 12-o’clock marker on the steering wheel are unique, as is a specific indoor car cover with bespoke ‘70 Years Porsche Australia’ logos.

Other standard extras include Chrono Package and Light Design, in addition to standard features for the GT3 Touring Package, which adds black-pained brake callipers, leather-trimmed cup-holders, tinted LED headlights and a Bose sound system.

The Porsche 911 GT3 70 Years Porsche is the first market-specific 911 GT model, as well as Australia’s first special-edition Porsche.

The vehicle was tailor-made and hand-assembled by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur in Germany with input from the Style Porsche design team and the customisation department and Porsche Cars Australia.

Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur is the bespoke arm of Porsche and only creates two special-editions per year. Australia was chosen for the first ever custom 911 GT model due to its mature motorsport and performance car culture.

“Porsche has a rich 70-year history in Australia, with motorsport and performance cars a part of that story right from the beginning,” said Chris Jordan, head of PR at Porsche Cars Australia.

“So it made sense to base our edition on a 911 GT product, and we were very pleased when Porsche AG was supportive of this idea.”
