Updated 2022 Mazda BT-50 prices announced

Downsized 1.9-litre turbo-diesel lowers entry price by $3000

Mazda Australia has announced pricing for the updated 2022 Mazda BT-50 ute range due to arrive in January, and the headline acts are a smaller new 1.9-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine at base level and a new premium SP variant.

First seen in the BT-50’s sister model, the Isuzu D-MAX, the downsized diesel lowers the price of the cheapest BT-50 variant by $3000, with the new MY22 Mazda BT-50 XS Single Cab Chassis 4x2 auto priced at $33,500 plus on-road costs or $38,490 drive-away for ABN holders.

Matched exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission, the 110kW/350Nm 1.9-litre turbo-diesel is also available in XS dual-cab pick-up form, with the new MY22 Mazda BT-50 XS Dual Cab Pickup 4x2 priced at $42,490 plus ORCs and the 4x4 priced at $51,110 plus ORCs, or $43,990 and $51,490 drive-away for ABN holders respectively.

All three new XS variants will tow up to three tonnes and both 4x2 versions ride on 17-inch steel wheels (rather than alloys as with the 3.0-litre diesel XT). Otherwise specifications are as per the XT, including:

  • 17-inch steel wheels (XS 4x2)
  • 17-inch alloy wheels (XS 4x4)

  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go (automatic)
  • 7.0-inch full-colour infotainment touch-screen

  • Bluetooth hands-free telephone and audio capability
  • DAB+ digital radio
  • Reversing camera
  • Rear-seat USB charging point (dual-cab models only)

At the other end of the line-up is the new 2022 Mazda BT-50 SP, positioned above the premium GT (now from $56,990 drive-away) and below the flagship Thunder (now from $65,990 drive-away), at $62,990 drive-away.

Powered by a carryover 140kW/450Nm 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel with the choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmission, the factory-built SP is pitched as a sportier alternative to the ‘luxury’ GT, which already features items like heated front seats and an auto-dimming interior mirror.

Key standard features for the first Mazda BT-50 SP, which comes with a combination of black and grey exterior highlights, also include a black grille with Gunmetal signature wings, metallic grey roof rails, gloss black exterior mirrors and door handles, satin black 18-inch alloy wheels, grey side steps, Black and Driftwood leather with synthetic suede interior trim, manually-operated black roller tonneau cover, tub liner, gloss black sail-plane sports bar and gloss black wheel-arch flares.

Also joining the MY22 BT-50 range will be a new Lane Support System button, which due to customer demand allows drivers to disable the standard lane keeping systems when required.

Mazda says dealer and customer feedback has also led to black rear bumpers replacing the body-colour units fitted to all cab/chassis models.

Mazda Australia managing director Vinesh Bhindi said waiting lists for the BT-50 are expected to shorten after the Japanese brand receives additional supplies from November production, following the model’s second-best monthly sales result ever in July.

“We know how important personalisation is for our customers, particularly when it comes to the utility segment. The addition of a new powertrain, a new entry grade and a stylish new high grade in the SP, combined with ready availability of stock, gives our customers more opportunity to find their right vehicle sooner,” he said.
