Updated 2024 Genesis G70 is $18K more expensive

Korean BMW 3 Series rival hit with massive price spike as Genesis slashes G70 sedan and wagon range

Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis has announced Australian pricing and spec details for the upgraded 2024 Genesis G70 range and the big news is the mid-size premium sedan and wagon line-up has been slashed from eight variants to just two, increasing the entry price by $18,000.

Formerly opening the range at $63,000 plus on-road costs was the entry-level 2023 Genesis G70 sedan powered by a 179kW/353Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, but it has been replaced by the 2024 Genesis G70 2.0T Sport Line Luxury wagon with the same rear-drive powertrain for $81,000 plus ORCs.

Comparing the 2023 wagon to the 2024 wagon – or Shooting Brake, to use Hyundai lingo – the price rise is less alarming at $2000.

The higher-output (274kW/510Nm) 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 hero engine previously found in the Kia Stinger is now exclusive to the G70 sedan and priced at $88,000 plus ORCs, representing an increase of just over $12,000 – although the sole 2024 Genesis G70 3.3T Sport Luxury sedan comes as standard with the Luxury pack, which was formerly a $10,000 option.

Both vehicles are rear-wheel drive like their BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class competitors and both come standard with eight-speed automatic transmissions. The entry-level G70 wagon is claimed to hit 100km/h in 6.1 seconds and the V6 sedan in 4.7sec.

Top speeds are 240km/h and 270km/h respectively and both models are now fitted with Brembo performance brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres as standard.

New features for the 2024 Genesis G70 include an updated dashboard design that features an additional 6.0-inch touch-screen with haptic feedback for climate controls, along with Genesis Connected Services and over-the-air (OTA) operating system updates.

The adaptive suspension system in the sedan has also been upgraded and speed sign recognition added.

All Genesis G70 models have generous equipment lists including a panoramic sunroof, Nappa leather trimmed and heated/ventilated front sports seats, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, suede headlining and pillars part of the package.

Tech features include a head-up display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster plus a 10.25-inch central touch-screen. Apple CarPlay and Android auto are part of the package (wired), along with a 15-speaker Lexicon premium sound system plus all the usual safety and autonomous systems expected of luxury cars.

Sedan models also add a Sport+ mode and a variable dual exhaust system with loud and quiet settings.

Overall sales of Genesis vehicles are up more than 90 per cent year on year in Australia, but the growth has been driven exclusively by its three SUV offerings (GV60, GV70 and GV80).

The changes to the local G70 line-up may be in response to sales dropping by 16 per cent so far this year. The bigger G80 has fared even worse, with sales plummeting by almost 50 per cent.

The single sedan and wagon versions of the updated G70 range is rolling into Aussie showrooms now.

How much does the 2024 Genesis G70 cost?
2.0T Sport Line Luxury Shooting Brake – $81,000 (+$2000)
3.3T Sport Luxury sedan – $88,000 (+$12,124)
* Prices exclude on-road costs
