FCA Australia has announced a new model-year update for the brash, giant-killing Abarth 595.
Prices remain as they were at the launch of the Series 4 update late last year, when FCA repositioned the Abarth 595 at a lower price to attract more buyers, but the 5.0-inch UConnect infotainment screen offered then has given way to a seven-inch screen and the system is now compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Mechanically, the Abarth is unchanged, with the basic 595 hard-top and convertible powered by a 107kW 1.4-litre turbocharged engine driving through a five-speed manual. The upmarket Abarth 595 Competizione sticks with the same formula, but the engine is rated at 132kW.
“The repositioning of the Abarth 595 late last year delivered customer demand that far exceeded our expectations. Clearly the revised product specification and sharpened pricing has resonated with hot hatch buyers,” said Fulvio Antonelli, Director of Abarth Brand Australia.
“A bonus of this demand is that we have managed to secure additional production support from the factory which is more closely aligned with the increased enquiry, which should improve customer delivery times," Antonelli was quoted saying in a press release.
FCA claims that the introduction of the Series 4 595 has seen sales jump by "over 300 per cent" since the importer began taking orders in September last year.
