Updated Audi e-tron Sportback previewed

Audi’s upgraded all-electric SUV shown testing in the snow ahead of launch later this year

Audi has released images of its updated 2022 Audi e-tron Sportback undergoing winter testing ahead of its launch in the coming months.

Featuring a camouflaged front and rear end, it's thought the updates to the battery-powered SUV's styling will include minor tweaks to the front and rear bumpers designed to lower the already-sleek 0.25Cd drag coefficient.

It looks like the front Matrix LED headlights and LED tail-lights will carry over largely unchanged.

New wheels and paint options will also be offered.

Inside, expect a refreshed version of its infotainment system and minor updates that could include the introduction of higher-grade materials within the cabin.

The big news concerns the introduction of new battery options that should see the range exceed 600km for the first time.

That's a considerable step up from the 466km (WLTP) distance the current Audi e-tron Sportback can cover with the largest 95kWh lithium-ion battery pack installed.

There's no word on whether Audi will slip in more powerful electric motors, although few prospective buyers have cause for complaint with the 370kW/973Nm dished up by the three-motor e-tron S Sportback.

However, a modest improvement over the 4.5 seconds it takes for the 0-100km/h sprint is expected.

Set to be revealed in the coming months, the e-tron Sportback was only introduced in 2020, so the timing of the facelift seems a bit premature in the usual seven-year car lifecycle.

But it's thought some of the updates will also be introduced to the regular e-tron that made its debut in 2018.
