Updated Nissan LEAF revealed

Facelift and tech upgrade coming later this year for Nissan’s electric hatch

There’s a makeover on the horizon for the Nissan LEAF electric car, with an MY22 upgrade breaking cover in Europe ahead of an Australian launch in the second half of this year.

Headlined by redesigned alloy wheels, the 2022 Nissan LEAF facelift will also usher in an updated (black) front fascia, fresh badging and a bolder array of exterior colour options to make the battery-electric hatchback look more refined and dynamic.

No changes have been made to the interior design of the LEAF, nor has there been any major update to standard equipment levels save for an expansion of the NissanConnect App functions and Amazon Alexa compatibility.

Nissan Australia says full specification details for our market will be revealed closer to launch.

As for powertrain options, the familiar single-motor arrangement with 40kWh battery will continue to propel the standard LEAF, while the gruntier Nissan LEAF e+ will carry on with the bigger 62kWh pack.

The standard LEAF has a WLTP-verified driving range of up to 270km, while the LEAF e+ offers up to 385km between top-ups.

Both models are compatible with V2G (vehicle-to-grid) infrastructure currently being trialled in Australia.

The Nissan LEAF has always been about making advanced technology and … been designed around families’ needs to offer seamless connectivity and an efficient powertrain,” said Nissan’s regional product strategy and pricing vice-president Arnaud Charpentier.

“LEAF has played a key role in shaping Nissan’s vision for empowering mobility.”

The next-generation Nissan LEAF due by mid-decade is expected undergo a radical transformation as an SUV under the Japanese car-maker’s latest strategic plan that promises to deliver 15 electric cars to market by 2030.
