Updated Range Rover Evoque due in March

Base price unchanged, but facelifted Evoque scores nine-speed ZF auto and added equipment
Land Rover has released details of a raft of improvements to arrive with its MY14 Range Rover Evoque. And it will see no rise from the current base price of $49,995 plus on-roads when it launches Down Under in March 2014.
While the engine range doesn’t change, all automatic Evoques will benefit from a transmission upgrade to ZF’s new 9HP nine-speed auto transmission, helping boost economy and performance while cutting emissions and improving drive comfort with a shift action slick enough to make gear changes virtually imperceptible. The range will continue with a choice of a 177kW 2.0-litre petrol Si4 engine or 2.2-litre oilers in two tunes: the 110kW TD4 or the 140kW SD4.
All Si4 petrol variants will get an “active driveline” with on-demand AWD, which defaults to FWD during stable driving over 35km/h.  When the system’s vehicle dynamics sensors detect the need, it activates the rear diff within 300 milliseconds. Active torque biasing via an electronic differential (e-Diff) monitors rear-end traction and stability and distributes torque between the wheels accordingly.
While the line-up is yet to undergo Australian dyno testing, Land Rover claims the suite of technologies cut fuel consumption by up to 11.4 per cent and CO2 emissions by up to 9.5 per cent
To help keep things nice through corners, SD4 diesel and Si4 petrol variants will get a torque vectoring system using braking to apportion torque between the wheels to keep understeer in check.
The update will come with a host of driver assistance options as well. They include a new adaptive cruise encompassing queue assist, forward alert and intelligent emergency braking systems. The cruise sensors are put to work in a parking assistance package helping the car centre itself in angle parking bays and automatically exit parallel parking spots. Option packs will extend to traffic sign recognition and sensors detecting oncoming traffic, lane departure and wade.
Asked if any of the assist systems will be standard in higher spec models, LandRover Australia spokesman Tim Krieger told motoring.com.au all will be optional across the range.
Beyond the remaining stable at the $50K base, Land Rover is not talking about pricing up the range, he added. “But prices will vary – we’ll be confirming to what degree closer to launch time.”
On the outside, the new Evoque will be denoted by updates to the colour palette, alloy wheel designs and badging.
