Updated Suzuki Swift revealed

Japanese brand’s popular light hatch gets more tech and new look for mid-life refresh

The facelifted 2020 Suzuki Swift has broken cover, sporting a revised styling and extra technology.

As you can see from these images released in Japan, the updated fourth-generation hatchback gets slightly revised front- and rear-end designs, with a horizontal chrome bar through the grille on some variants, and new wheel options.

The Japanese launch of the revised Suzuki Swift follows last month’s reveal of the updated 2020 Swift Sport, which brought new standard equipment including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and an upgraded instrument cluster with digital speedo.

While Suzuki Australia is yet to confirm such inclusions for its updated Swift range, it wouldn’t be silly to assume the same features will be part of the popular hatchback’s mid-life update locally.

The 2020 Suzuki Swift line-up is also likely to get additions such as dusk-sensing headlights and a 360-degree camera on entry and mid-spec variants.

Although we’ll have to wait a little longer for the fuel-saving hybrid Swift touted in late 2019, Australians should continue to be offered three petrol engines in the Swift.

These include a 1.2-litre four-cylinder for the entry-level GL Navigator (currently priced at $16,990 plus on-road costs), 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo power for the mid-range GLX Turbo ($22,990 plus ORCs) and a 1.4-litre four-cylinder for the Swift Sport ($25,490).

It’s unclear at this stage when the revised Suzuki Swift will go on sale here, but we’ll let you know as soon as we hear back from Suzuki Australia.
