Upgrade coming for high-grade 2023 Mazda BT-50s

New model year brings one new key new feature from MY23 D-MAX twin – but not the other

Mazda Australia has quietly upped the pricing and standard specifications of the Mazda BT-50 ute line-up for the 2023 model year, in addition to the decked-out new XTR LE variant joining the range.

The primary equipment upgrade is the inclusion of tyre pressure monitoring on all premium versions of the 2023 Mazda BT-50, including XTR, LE, GT, SP and Thunder variants.

However, it seems the MY23 BT-50 has missed out on the new blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert deactivation function introduced on its sister model, the 2023 Isuzu D-MAX, in which the systems are automatically switched off when the genuine tow bar and harness recognises a trailer has been hitched.

Still, that hasn’t stopped the prices being increased by between $1420-$2120 depending on the variant, even though the XS and XT grades don’t receive any new features.

The range now kicks off from $35,370 (+1520) plus on-road costs for the 1.9-litre XS single cab chassis 4x2 and tops out at $73,410 plus ORCs (+$2220) for the flagship Thunder 4x4 (pictured here).

Speaking of the BT-50 range-topper, the manual version as well as three-pedal versions of the sporty SP and luxury GT below it have been axed on account of the overwhelming popularity of the six-speed automatic transmission, which carries a $2500 price premium.

No changes have been made to either of the BT-50’s powertrains – 1.9-litre turbo-diesel (110kW/350Nm) and 3.0-litre turbo-diesel (140kW/450Nm) – or its design or interior for the new model year.
